Budget-friendly 7" CHIRP + ClearV fish finder with LiveScope-ready upgrade path. Priced under $650.

Garmin ECHOMAP UHD2 72cv 7" Fish Finder with Transducer

The Garmin ECHOMAP UHD2 72cv is one of the best budget-friendly 7-inch fish finders for anglers who need CHIRP and ClearV down imaging without the cost of SideV in the sub-$700 tier. It's a 7" touchscreen fishfinder and chartplotter in Garmin's mainstream ECHOMAP UHD2 lineup, the "cv" suffix means CHIRP traditional sonar and ClearV down imaging, without SideV side imaging. If you fish mostly on inland lakes, ponds, and rivers where down imaging tells you what you need to know about what's directly below the boat, this is the right tier, and you save roughly $350 vs the sv variant with SideV. The included GT20-TM transom-mount transducer is ready to install, no additional purchase required. This model ships with Worldwide Basemap (no regional Navionics+ charts pre-loaded), making it anglers who travel internationally or prefer to add their own region-specific cartography.

Even without SideV, this unit is LiveScope Plus and LiveScope XR compatible when paired with the GLS 10 black box. That's a meaningful detail, the 7" display tier supports live sonar regardless of whether you chose cv or sv, so you keep the upgrade path open even on the budget variant. If you've been fishing with a no-GPS single-beam unit and want to step up to real CHIRP + ClearV without breaking $700, this is the tier where that happens.

Who This Fish Finder Is For

The ECHOMAP UHD2 72cv is best for bass anglers, crappie fishermen, panfish anglers, and casual tournament anglers who need CHIRP + down imaging plus a real GPS chartplotter, but don't need SideV side imaging to find fish. Most inland lake anglers, crappie fishermen working brush piles, bass anglers working points and drop-offs, and panfish anglers on structure get everything they need from CHIRP + ClearV. It's a common choice on 14-22 ft bass boats, aluminum jon boats, pontoons, and kayaks with a 12V battery. Compared to other 7-inch CHIRP + down imaging units in the budget-to-mid range category, this Garmin stands out for having a LiveScope upgrade path, most competing units at this price point don't offer a live sonar option at all.

Choose This If...

• You don't need SideV side imaging, if you fish mostly verticals, brush piles, drop-offs, or directly-below structure, ClearV down imaging shows you everything you need, and you save $350 vs the sv variant.
• You want LiveScope compatibility now or later, the 7" UHD2 cv units support LiveScope via GLS 10 just like the sv variants; the 5" and 6" UHD2 units do not support LiveScope at all.
• Anglers who travel internationally or prefer to add their own region-specific cartography, this variant ships with Worldwide Basemap (no regional Navionics+ charts pre-loaded). For pre-loaded U.S. Inland maps, pick the "U.S. Inland Maps" variant (73cv). For U.S. Coastal, pick "U.S. Coastal Maps" (74cv). For Canada, pick "Canada Maps" (75cv).
• Your budget is $600-$700, this tier delivers real CHIRP + ClearV sonar with built-in GPS mapping, no entry-level shortcuts.
• You're upgrading from a STRIKER or older single-beam unit, the jump to CHIRP + ClearV + color mapping is significant.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between cv and sv?

"cv" means CHIRP + ClearV (down imaging only). "sv" adds SideV side imaging. The 72cv (cv) does not include SideV. The 72sv (sv variant) does. The cv models are roughly $350 cheaper and still support LiveScope at the 7" display tier.

Is the ECHOMAP UHD2 72cv LiveScope compatible?

Yes. The 7" and 9" UHD2 models support LiveScope Plus, LiveScope XR, and LiveScope Original when paired with a Garmin GLS 10 black box (sold separately, around $499), this applies to both cv and sv variants at the 7" tier. The 5" and 6" UHD2 models do not support LiveScope due to display tier limitations.

Can I upgrade this unit to get SideV later?

No. SideV support is baked into the head unit itself, it's a hardware tier difference between cv and sv models. Even if you buy a SideV-capable transducer (GT54UHD or GT56UHD), this cv head unit will only output CHIRP + ClearV. If SideV is something you might want later, upgrade to the 72sv at purchase time. That said, LiveScope is still available on this unit, so you're not locked out of live sonar.

Does the transducer come included?

Yes. This "Fishfinder" package includes the GT20-TM transom-mount transducer with 20 ft of cable. If you already own a GT-series transducer, consider the Chartplotter variant (same unit, no transducer included, $50 lower price).

What maps are included?

This unit ships with Worldwide Basemap (no regional Navionics+ charts pre-loaded). Includes a basic worldwide basemap. You will need to add a Navionics+, LakeMaster, or CoastMaster chip for the region you fish. For pre-loaded U.S. Inland maps, pick the "U.S. Inland Maps" variant (73cv). For U.S. Coastal, pick "U.S. Coastal Maps" (74cv). For Canada, pick "Canada Maps" (75cv). All units accept LakeMaster, CoastMaster, and C-MAP cartography via microSD for expanded coverage.

Will this fit on my boat?

The head unit is 9" wide by 5.5" tall. It fits most 14-22 ft bass boats, aluminum jon boats, pontoons, and kayaks with a 12V battery. It mounts with the included gimbal bracket or an optional flush-mount kit. It requires 12V DC power wired to the accessory panel. Most anglers install it themselves in 2-4 hours.

Is this used in tournaments?

Yes. The ECHOMAP UHD2 line is commonly used in B.A.S.S., MLF, FLW, and most local tournament circuits, especially the cv variants among tournament anglers on tighter budgets who rely on CHIRP + ClearV and live sonar (LiveScope) rather than SideV. LiveScope use is subject to each tournament's specific live sonar rules, check your circuit's current regulations before tournament day.
